In 5th grade, we work with the first quadrant of the coordinate plane only.
You should know the parts of the coordinate plane (or coordinate grid): 1. x-axis: horizontal number line; scale varies 2. y-axis: vertical number line; scale varies 3. origin: point where the x-axis and y-axis intersect perpendicular to each other; location is (0,0) |
Additive Graphs
Additive graphs always pass through the y-axis, above or below the point of origin.
*Why? Because when you add any number to zero as the input, the output is larger than zero. |
Multiplicative Graphs
Multiplicative graphs always pass through the point of origin.
*Why? Because when you multiply any number by zero as the input, zero is always your output. |
